CITY 2010-11 BUDGET ADOPTED 9-1-10 LMS

A fiscal year budget of $3,638,980 for the City of Salmon was officially adopted at a September 1st meeting of the Salmon City Council. A vote to approve the third reading of the budget ordinance was unanimous.

In her Finance Committee report City Finance Director Amy Fealko confirmed the committee’s recommendation that the annual salary for the position of City Clerk should be set at $50,000 and $54,739.25 should be paid to the Police Chief.

Fealko said the committee has met with interim Sacajawea Center Director Judy Barkley to discuss salaries for center personnel and staffing requirements. Barkley reported she is currently working in excess of 50 hours a week to ensure needs are met at the center. Barkley is also the city’s Recreation Director and is actively involved in the Local Option Tax Commission as well as working on county wide transportation planning.

Fealko said Barkley’s recommendations for Sacajawea Center staffing include two, 15 hours per week, year-around employees. The two would cover marketing and reservations plus program development and grants. In addition she recommended one 15 hours per week employee to handle grounds maintenance for six months of the year.

Fealko said, “As Judy’s job has evolved drastically since she was hired by the city, it may be beneficial to redefine her job description so she is able to get her duties done within 40 hours a week.”

Fealko said the committee’s discussion with Barkley also included how to improve communications between departments so that departments could better work together as a whole instead of functioning as separate entities. It was suggested that if council goals were presented to city employees it would help to get everyone working on the same page.

The next meeting of the City Finance Committee will be September 15th at 10AM in the Salmon Valley Center.
