FARMERíS MARKET WEEK PROCLAIMED 8-3-11 LMS

The week of August 7 through 13 has been proclaimed as Farmerís Market Week.

City of Salmon Mayor Leo Marshall read the official proclamation at the August 3 meeting of the Salmon City Council.

The proclamation document cited Agriculture as Idahoís leading resource based industry annually contributing over $5.2 billion to the stateís economy.

Farmerís Markets throughout Idaho are growing in size and popularity and there are now 57 markets in operation. They stimulate the local economies by directly supporting local farmers and reinvesting money back into communities. Farmerís Markets are also an important means of educating consumers about local food systems.

Nationally, consumer trends are showing a great interest in eating locally grown foods. Marshall said, ďIdaho Farmerís Markets are a great place to buy fresh local products of the highest quality.Ē He said the City of Salmon strongly supports and promotes the development, continuation and expansion of the Lemhi County Farmerís Market and sets aside the week of August 7-13 as Farmerís Market Week.

Marshall urged everyone to recognize and enjoy the benefits of having the Lemhi County Farmerís Market in this community.
