PLANNING & ZONING APPOINTMENT 12-7-11 LMS

Mayor Leo Marshall has appointed Rob Jackson to serve on the City Planning and Zoning Commission. The appointment will bring the commission membership up to a required number. Marshall also reappointed Vance Marvin to the P&Z board.

The appointment and the reappointment were unanimously approved by the Salmon City Council at its December 7 meeting.

During that meeting’s Public Comment period Roy Jackson reported on the status of a carport issue that has been before the P&Z and has been brought before previous City Council meetings.

Jackson thanked the council for allowing him the time to have the situation investigated by Chace Slavin. He said Slavin found nothing new in the location’s history and confirmed the vacation done by Lemhi County took place in 1933 and included all the property currently owned by Joe Proksch. Jackson said there have been two other vacations in his property’s vicinity. One was initiated by Proksch to vacate Poplar Lane and an alleyway that has been in question. The other was for 5th Avenue South which is south of Jackson. Both vacations went through the required process and were granted. Jackson said the 5th Avenue South vacation was done because a garage had been built in the middle of the platted avenue.

Now that all the past history has been researched Jackson said whatever decision the council makes related to the disposition of his carport will be fine with him, whether it is to grant a revocable permit or arrange for a lease or rental agreement. He asked only that if the decision is for him to move the carport he be given until Spring when the weather is more conducive to pouring concrete footings.

Jackson thanked the council again for its consideration and said it has done a fine job.

It will be necessary to schedule a discussion of the topic on a future council agenda in order to legally make an official decision.
