|MAYOR APPOINTS TEAMS|
COMMITTEE MEMBERS SELECTED 1-18-12
The city has several committees which address specific issues then report recommendations to the full City Council.
At the January 18 meeting of the council Mayor Leo Marshall announced his suggested committee assignments. He said his selections were based on matching each council member’s expertise and experience to the topics addressed by the specific committees. Only one of his recommendations proved unacceptable to the council and that was removing Councilman Jim Baker from the city Finance Committee.
Marshall explained that with all the projects scheduled for the Public Works department he thought Baker’s engineering background would be best put to use there.
After extended discussion which included reminders of the City Finance Director’s excellent skills and the fact she also serves on the Finance Committee, the council still wanted Baker to remain with that committee.
The final team assignments for committees were as follows: Parks and Recreation Committee council members will be Jim Kluesner, Ken Hill and Jim Bockelman. The Public Safety Committee will include Fred Waidely, Jessie Bender and Ken Hill. Public Works Committee members will be Jim Baker, Fred Waidely and Jim Kluesner. Sacajawea Center Committee council representatives will be Fred Waidely, Jesse Bender and Jim Bockelman and on the Finance Committee; Jim Bockelman, Jim Baker and Jessie Bender.
Each committee will select its chairman.
City Administrator George Ambrose commented that each of the committees is vital and has the responsibility of sorting out important issues. He said, “The budget is the toughest thing we do.” Work on next year’s budget will begin in March. He went on to say there may be between three and four million dollars worth of public works projects this year as well as sidewalk projects and Capital Expenditure projects so there will be a great deal of business before the Public Works Committee.
Each committee also contains various city staff members yet to be assigned. The committee members will confer and then announce meeting schedules. All committee meetings are publicized in advance and are open to the public.
