PARKS & RECREATION TOPICS 3-7-12 LMS

The Calvary Chapel of Salmon has offered to provide the city with a youth cleanup crew for the Skate Park according to a report on the February 21 Parks and Recreation Committee Team meeting presented by City Councilman Jim Kluesner.

Kluesner told the March 7 meeting of the Salmon City Council that the Chapel has offered the Skate Park cleanup effort as well as a proposal to build a carving table and bench inside the fenced area of the facility. Calvary Chapel would also like to assist the skaters in organizing competition events. Kluesner said the Parks and Recreation Team felt the Chapel should be given the go-ahead on their generous offer. The volunteer clean-up will save the city, and therefore taxpayers, a good deal of money.

Kluesner told the council that the Softball Association brought issues to the Team regarding the Park Use Agreement. Their questions related to fences, infields, weeds and watering. The concerns will be addressed to Parks Superintendent Charley Cockrell at the March 20 meeting of the Parks and Recreation Team.

City Administrator George Ambrose updated the team on the proposed multiple use pathway along Highway 28. He said the path, which would lead to City Park, has to first be surveyed and engineered and then approved by the state. Ambrose said he has found local professionals who are willing to do the work at no charge.

The pathway plan calls for an asphalt surface. Kluesner said it is thought that if the project waits until 2013 surfacing materials can be obtained at the asphalt plant scheduled to be here working on the airport.

A large sign at the City Park/Golf Course approach was demolished in a vehicular incident and Kluesner said Sacajawea Center Direct Judy Barkley is researching replacement costs.

Kluesner said the next meeting of the Parks and Recreation Committee Team is set for 11A.M on March 20 in the Salmon Valley Center Meeting Room.
