MERIT AWARDS 5-16-12 LMS

Salmon City Mayor Leo Marshall has named three residents as recipients of Certificates of Merit because of their neighborly acts of kindness.

The mayor recounted the sad passing of a resident on the Bar Hill which took place a few weeks ago. He said it was former mayor John Miller who, as he was making his postmanís rounds, noticed the mail at a particular address had not been touched for several days.

Marshall said Miller asked neighbor Sue Waidely to assist him in checking on the home owner. It was discovered the man had passed away and police investigators including City Police Officer Gene Gittleson were called to the scene.

Marshall said the next day as he was passing the home he saw off-duty Officer Gittleson maneuvering a piece of furniture through the door of the house. It was the chair in which the former neighbor had died. The officer was helping with the aftermath on his own time and using his private vehicle to haul away the chair.

Marshall said that Miller, Waidely and Gittleson all went above and beyond in their concern and helpfulness. He said each will be receiving a special Certificate of Merit from the city.
