SHANAFELT APPOINTED 11-7-12 LMS
Salmon Wastewater Superintendent Harry Shanafelt has been appointed to succeed Salmon City Public Works Superintendent Mickey Verbeck Sr. who retiring as of January 2013.
At the November 7 meeting of the Salmon City Council Mayor Leo Marshall proposed Shanafelt be named to replace Verbeck and the council agreed unanimously.
City code specifies it is the mayor’s prerogative to appoint the Public Works Superintendent and there is no need for advertising the job opening when the appointment is made from within the current city staff.
City Administrator George Ambrose said that Shanafelt has all the required licenses to fill the position. He said past applications the city has received for the job of Wastewater Superintendent will now be reviewed with input from Shanafelt and the goal is to have the new superintendent on line by the time construction upgrades begin on the wastewater system.
Shanafelt will officially become Public Works Superintendent on January 1, 2013.
