ICE JAM REPORT 1-17-13

As of Thursday evening the Deadwater ice jam was in the Carmen Creek area and expected to reach the Carmen Bridge by tomorrow (Friday). If temperatures remain where they have been the ice jam is projected to reach the Salmon area by Sunday night or Monday.

According to river watcher Dale Ford the ice jam located in the area of Buddyís Restaurant is looking better in that it seems to be attempting to open. The opening and closing action is what causes concern for residents near the river since water levels can rise very quickly when the ice closes a channel.

Residents along River and Water Streets, North Terrace Streets and in the area of the North St. Charles Campground need to be alert for possible flooding conditions. Residents along Kidís Creek should also be aware that if the culvert which drains Kidís Creek into the Salmon River becomes clogged with ice there is a potential for overflow from the creek.
