ICE JAM REPORT 1-24-13

The national weather service is maintaining a flood watch alert as temperatures began to warm on Thursday.

Temperatures reached the 30ís for the first time in weeks and the Deadwater Ice Jam has started to retreat. Some minor flooding was observed in the Carmen and Big Flat areas as water has gone over the banks of the Salmon River in a few locations. The ice is still tightly packed around the Carmen Bridge however an open channel was seen from the south end of the jam to within a mile of the bridge.

The latest weather forecast predicts temperatures in the 20ís for the next few days which river watchers feel would create opportunities for river channels to open gradually.

Residents along the Salmon and Lemhi Rivers are still being advised to stay apprised of river conditions.
