POOL FACILITY FLOOR SURFACING DISCUSSED 4-17-13 LMS
Ten thousand dollars in Local Option Tax funding was approved for the City Swimming Pool by the Salmon City Council at its April 3 meeting. Only half that amount was designated for the swimming pool facility floor since the final cost of the resurfacing project was not known at that time.
According to a report by Councilman Jim Kluesner at the April 17 meeting of the council the Parks and Recreation Team has ascertained the cost of resurfacing the floor with a textured nonskid paint plus labor will be $9400. Therefore, a request for additional monies to fund the flooring project will be submitted to LOT and if recommended by the Commission forwarded to the City Council for approval. The cityís Independent Contractor Agreement for the project is with Williams Painting. The project was not put out for bid because the total cost is under $10,000.
Kluesner explained that the other half of the $10,000 LOT allocation is designated for other swimming pool needs such as diving boards, life guard chair repairs, a pool cover and roller, hot water system for the ladies dressing room and a pool slide.
At the second council meeting of the month it was decided to table approval of the floor resurfacing project until after the next LOT meeting where the commission will consider the added request and make a recommendation to the council at its May 1 meeting. If the added monies are approved it will still give the contractor time to complete the job by the projected completion date of May 18.
In other business, Kluesner said the Parks and Recreation Team discussed agreements with baseball organizations. He said the Salmon River Baseball Association and Lemhi Baseball League have signed agreements with the city for the use of City Park fields and have provided a schedule of the upcoming seasonís games. He said the Salmon Co-Ed Baseball Association requested some changes in their agreement with the city which need to be addressed by the full City Council.
Team member and Councilman Jim Bockelman asked the Parks and Recreation Team to review the two existing golf course agreements to see if they could be combined and he also suggested the team look over the cityís agreement with the Hockey Association.
Kluesner announced that sign up for all of this summerís swimming sessions will be held May 20 and 21 at the swimming pool.
The next meeting of the Parks and Recreation Team is set for May 14 at 10AM in the City Park Pavilion.
