PUBLIC WORKS TEAM UPDATE 9-18-13 LMS
Eddie Fields attended the September 11 meeting of the city’s Public Works Team to request information related to the feasibility of vacating a portion of 11th Street. Team Chairman Fred Waidely told the September 18 meeting of the Salmon City Council that after discussing Fields’ request it was clear some legal opinions would be needed before proceeding further and the matter was referred to City Attorney Fred Snook.
Steele Memorial Medical Center Chief Operating Officer Abner King asked about the status of plans to upgrade VanDreff Street in the vicinity of the hospital. Public Works Supervisor Harry Shanafelt told King that due to time and resource considerations the department cannot re-do the street this year and that the work has been scheduled for next Spring or Summer. Shanafelt said in the meantime the street will be patched and made as smooth as possible.
Waidely said the Army Corps of Engineers recent Dyke Inspection Report was discussed and then the topic was deferred until more council members could be present.
Waidely reported that both the city and the county question the amount of credit given to Wellard Construction for the second change order on the Courthouse Drive sidewalk and gutter project. Waidely will consult with the construction company and report on the meeting.
A development agreement being put together by City Planner Dan Maiyo for a Salmon Dental Center to be built at the corner of Margaret and Shoup Streets was reviewed. Waidely said the Public Works Team thinks drainage swales would work better at that site than curb and gutter and would benefit both the city and the developers. Maiyo informed the council that the development agreement has since been distributed to all parties concerned and will be presented at the council’s October 2nd meeting.
The next meeting of the Public Works Team will take place Wednesday October 8 in the Salmon Valley Center meeting room at 2PM. The team meetings are open to the public.
