TEMPERATURES PERSIST 12-12-13

Contrary to weather forecasts of a warming trend, the cold temperatures trapped in the valley remain low enough to allow continued growth of the over 17 mile long ice jam headed towards Salmon.

As of midday Thursday the ice jam that has backed up the Salmon River from the Deadwater area has reached the lower end of Diamond Creek and is approximately two miles from Morgan Bar. Morgan Bar is about six miles from the town of Salmon.

There have been no reports of flooding in ice jam flood-prone areas. When the ice does begin to recede there is still a chance of flooding therefore, residents along the stretch of river now jammed with ice, as well as Highway 93 North drivers, should be alert and stay apprised of conditions.
