TEAM REPORTS 2-19-14 LMS

City Councilman Fred Waidely chairs two of the cityís working teams and reported on both of them at the Salmon City Councilís February 19 meeting.

He said at its February 12 meeting the Public Works Team discussed various designs and configurations for a City Park restroom. Public Works Superintendent Harry Shanafelt will consult with the Building Inspectorís office to see if suitable plans may already exist for the project. Waidely said the team felt some sort of cement structure would be the most durable and vandal proof.

The Sacajawea Center Team also met on the 12th and it addressed programming for the next season. The first goal is a Spring Day Camp to take place March 24-26. Waidely said the Tuff Stuff for Girls program may possibly be combined with the Mahoney House Strong Girls Program.

The Centerís Kids Garden and additional day camp programs are also being scheduled through the Summer beginning after the 4th of July.

Center Director Lin Gray reported that she and City Grants/Community Development Project Coordinator Mary Cerise are actively working on several revenue sources and funding grants. The grants will enable the Sacajawea Center to offer Summer youth programs as well as adult programs during the coming year. Later in the February 19 City Council meeting the council gave Cerise official permission to apply for the yearly bundle of several small grants which total $19,500. She told the council that any grant related financial obligations not covered by in-kind or volunteer hours comes from the already approved Center budget.

Waidely said the team is considering how best to display a mounted bison skull. Using a shadow box is one suggestion and the center invites the public to contribute additional ideas.

The Sacajawea Center Teamís next meeting will be the afternoon of March 12 at 4:15. The Public Works Team will meet that same afternoon at 2PM. Both meetings will take place in the Salmon Valley Center Meeting Room.
