WATER STREET RECOMMENDATION 3-19-14 LMS
The city’s Public Safety Team will be recommending to the Salmon City Council that curbside parking on the east side of Water Street between VanDreff and Main streets be eliminated.
Public Safety Team Chairman/Councilman Ken Hill told the March 19 meeting of the council that eliminating parking on the east side of Water Street is the solution consensus of the team and those concerned about safety issues as well as traffic congestion being caused by the Carmen Charter School Bus student pick-up and delivery site on Water Street.
Hill said the Public Safety Team met with Charter School owner Jim Smith and school patrons on March 12. In addition to the no parking zone it is recommended that the loading/unloading zone on the west side of Water Street near VanDreff Street be signed and that a designated crosswalk be created at the rear of the loading zone. The recommendations will be officially presented to the council for a final decision.
Other news from the Safety Team meeting was that the security camera system is functional except for the camera on Island Park. Police Chief KV Felker reported the system is doing the job as intended.
The next Public Safety Team meeting will be on April 9 at 5:15PM in the Salmon Valley Center meeting room.
