IN PERSON ONLY 4-2-14

The Salmon-Challis National Forest has announced that personal Use Fuelwood (firewood) permits are no long available by mail or by phone.

From now on permits must be purchased in person and are available at local Salmon-Challis National Forest Offices as well as the following area businesses: Cycles, Sleds, and Saws (756-8475), Salmon Oil (756-2624), Salmon River Quick Stop (756-6555), and Service Grocery (756-2832) in Salmon and Stage Stop Junction (768-2313) located in Leadore.

Additionally, the Salmon-Challis National Forest is exploring options of adding additional vendors in the Challis area as well as providing sales of Salmon-Challis Personal Use Fuelwood Permits on neighboring Forests. “We recognize the impact this change is going to have on our customers,” said Chuck Mark, Forest Supervisor, “We want to make the transition as smooth as possible.”

Woodcutters on the Salmon-Challis National Forest can take up to 12 cords of personal use fuelwood under their permits. Permits are valid from January 1 until December 31 of the year purchased. The permits cost $5.00 per cord and there is a $20 or four cord minimum purchase. A cord is the amount of tightly piled wood in a stack four feet high by four feet wide by eight feet long.

Additional information on Personal Use Firewood permits can be found on the Salmon-Challis National Forest Website by using the following link: Salmon-Challis Personal Use Firewood Information
