PARKS & RECREATION TEAM 5-21-14 LMS

The city’s Parks and Recreation team met on May 14 and discussed future maintenance needs of the Grizzly Bear water feature. The landscaped site is located across the street from City Hall and was funded by the Urban Renewal agency.

Team Chairman Rob Jackson told the May 21 meeting of the Salmon City Council that the team recommends maintenance costs of the water feature need to be included in the upcoming budget process. He said it is also time to add bark beneath the “Welcome to Salmon” sign at the Highway 93 North intersection.

At the time of the meeting the trees on Main Street were in need of having the grates lifted and the weeds around the bases of the trees removed. Jackson said he talked with Mrs. Cooper and she agreed to have her Landscaping class do the work. Jackson told the council that since that time the weeding has been done.

Tammy Dahle and Caroline Stivers talked to the team about having the Idaho Commission for the Arts give a presentation about creating a mural on the concrete at the Skate Park. They said the park users would be the mural artists.

Jackson said the Parks and Recreation Team discussed and updated baseball field use and maintenance agreements between the city and softball and baseball associations. The City Council later unanimously accepted the changes made to the agreements, which will now be sent to the various associations for signature.

Jackson said the Garden Club is no longer able to maintain the Rose Garden at City Park. The team discussed who could take over the duties and he said he was currently speaking with high school students interested in performing the community service. Rose Garden volunteers are Brooke Burnham, Annie Brown and Logan Deutchman. Jackson said the young gardeners will be reporting to the Parks and Recreation Team.

The next meeting for that team will be June 11 at 3:30 PM in the Salmon Valley Center meeting room.
