Jeff Allen and Shane Heath Memorial 5K/10K/Half Marathon Saturday, June 14th 6-3-14

The fourth annual Jeff Allen and Shane Heath Memorial 5K/10K/Half-Marathon will be held Saturday, June 14th at the Indianola Helibase located on the North Fork Ranger District of the Salmon-Challis National Forest. The route for the 5K/10K follows the Salmon River road from Indianola upriver. The half marathon has a new course this year that follows dirt roads. This is a family event and open to walkers. The Memorial Run is in honor of Jeff Allen and Shane Heath who lost their lives fighting a Wildland fire on the Salmon-Challis National Forest in 2003.

The half-marathon begins at 8:00 a.m.; the 5K and 10K begin at 9:00 a.m.

In addition, a live auction, music by The Workers, a Missoula based band, and a pint night at the outdoor amphitheater at the Sacajawea Center will start at 5 pm that evening. This event is free and open to the public. A person does not have to participate in the run in order to attend! Soft drinks and beer will be available for sale. All proceeds of the race and other events that day will be donated to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation.

The Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Boise, Idaho. The main focus of the Foundation is to help families of firefighters killed or injured in the line of duty. Board members realized that there was a great need to have emergency support services for the families of fallen and injured firefighters. Families left behind, many with young children, often find themselves with few resources, and the Foundation steps in to help.

Race packet pickup and late registration will be held at the Public Lands Center, 1206 S. Challis St., from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, June 13th. Limited packet pickup will be available on race day – no registration will be available on race day.
