MEMORIAL TO LOCAL VETERANS 6-9-14 LMS
A group of citizens has approached Lemhi County Commissioner Rick Snyder about creating a memorial to local veterans of the armed forces. They envision it being in a place that would be inviting, easily accessible and prominently placed in the pattern of daily traffic flow.
Snyder invited Salmon City Mayor Leo Marshall to the commissionerís June 9 meeting and the request was discussed. Marshall said he has travelled the town looking at possible locations. The cityís role would be to identify a city property location and make it available. The commissionersí role would be to offer help where it can and promote a fund raising campaign to build the memorial. The role of those requesting the memorial would be everything else; enlisting volunteers, planning the project, choosing a design and handling the construction aspects.
The officials felt a local Veteranís Memorial would be totally appropriate since Lemhi County has more veterans per capita than any other county in the state. They also agreed it would be a very welcome positive for the community.
The organizers will be invited to formulate a plan then attend a meeting of the cityís Parks and Recreation Team. Commissioner Bob Cope will attend the June 11 Parks and Recreation meeting to relay suggestions discussed Monday and state the countyís enthusiasm for the memorial project.
