Smoky Haze 7-16-14

Fire activity is picking up in the northwest portion of the United States and Canada. There are large fires in British Columbia and Oregon and Washington have 18 active large fires. The Boise and Payette National Forests to the west have several active fires as well. This fire activity is contributing to the smoky haze on the Salmon-Challis National Forest and in the Salmon and Challis areas.

Currently, there are no active fires on the Salmon-Challis National Forest. Personnel on the Forest want to remind visitors while areas of the Salmon-Challis National Forest look green, fire danger is a concern and is currently has a “HIGH” rating.

Remember never leave a campfire unattended and always use enough water to put the fire completely out as campfires have the potential to cause a wildfire when not properly extinguished. Make sure your campfire is cold to the touch.
