BUDGET AND ORDINANCES AND APPOINTMENTS 7-16-14 LMS
The Salmon City Council conducted a public hearing on July 16th to hear positive or negative comments pertaining to the city’s proposed budget which has been published in two editions of the newspaper.
No one attended and no one commented and the public hearing was closed. Later in the meeting the council unanimously passed the first reading of Ordinance 14-792 which outlines the 2014-15 Fiscal Year Budget totaling $3,606,273.
The council waived the three reading rule for ordinances and unanimously passed Ordinance 14-793 on the first reading. The ordinance grants Custer Telephone and Broadband Services LLC a ten year non-exclusive franchise to provide cable services within the city of Salmon.
Mayor Leo Marshall recommended that Charlie Thornton and Sheila Rolland be named to fill vacancies on the City Planning and Zoning Commission. City code requires a majority vote to approve an appointment recommendation. Even though it is technically legal to have a husband and wife on the commission several members of the council balked at the idea. The vote on the recommendation was a unanimous ‘no.’ The council felt that either person would be excellent for the duties involved yet having both could result in a swing vote on decisions. The mayor will ask the couple if one or the other is willing to serve.
A date of August 5th was selected for the next council workshop on the City Development Code. The workshop will begin at 5:30PM in the Salmon Valley Center meeting room.
