LOCAL OPTION TAX 12-18-14 LMS
Cathy Cranney and Julie Barbarick were welcomed as new members of the Local Option Tax (LOT) Commission at its December 1 meeting.
The term of LOT Commission member Craig McCallum is ending effective January 1, 2015 and it was reported that McCallum would like to remain on the commission. The LOT commission will make that request to Mayor Leo Marshall and the City Council.
Each LOT member was provided with a New Policy/Procedure Manual and a discussion was held on its contents.
Community Development Project Coordinator Mary Cerise showed the commission a power point presentation which will be used for a local January 13 training seminar. The seminar will explain the changes made to the LOT program along with its new application rules. It is hoped many will be able to attend. With that in mind there was a discussion of how best to market the January meeting.
Commission member City Councilman Jim Bockelman was appointed to develop a phone contact list for distribution to LOT Commission members. Mary Cerise will develop flyers, post cards, newspaper and radio ads and Sacajawea Center Director Lin Gray will provide the social media marketing for the event. The training seminar will begin at 5:30 on the 13th at the Sacajawea Center. Beverages and snacks will be provided.
LOT processes, applications and updated forms have been added to the city’s website. Gray suggested the commission develop a “Frequently Asked Questions” insert to add to the site and she will work on creating one.
The LOT commission urges anyone interested in applying for LOT funding to attend the January 13 training seminar.
