COUNTY WAIVES FEES 4-13-2015 LMS

Building permit fees for Salmon’s new public library have been waived by the Lemhi County Commissioners.

Lemhi County Library Association representatives Ramona Combs Stauffer and Ann Loucks met with the commissioners Monday, April 13, to request a fee waiver. They said everything is moving very quickly and as a result all the permits have to be in place since ground will be broken next Monday for the new $1,715,183 building.

According to the formula for figuring building permit fees, the fee for the new building would be $8,575.92. Loucks said they realized that is a huge amount but it would be a very substantial amount of help if it could be waived. She explained that all the money going into the new building has come from donations and endowments to the Library Association. She explained that monies from the Library taxing district can only be used for actual management and operation of the library.

The commissioners said it has long been the county’s policy to grant building fee waivers to non-profit 501 c3 organizations that contribute to the good of the community.

Loucks said she thinks everyone in the community has helped at some point during the long process of land procurement and fund raising. She said over $200,000 came from the community itself and $400,000 has come from grants written by the association.

She thanked the commissioners profusely for the fee waiver and gave high praise to County Building Inspector Gary Goodman for being their main “go-to guy” throughout this project.

Earlier in the meeting Goodman had reported to the commissioners that as of that day 41 building permits have been issued by the Building Department compared to only 15 being issued this time last year. He said there are a few big projects among the permits including a 5200 square foot home. Goodman said from his department’s standpoint, the economy is good.
