FINANCE TEAM REPORT 4-15-15 LMS

March numbers were reported to the Salmon City Councilís Finance Team earlier this month and according to a report by Team Chairman Jim Bockelman all expenses are looking good so far. He said the annual Auditorís Report was also discussed along with the upcoming city budget process.

Team member, Councilman Jim Baker, said he would like to see a preliminary closeout a minimum of 30 days after the fiscal year end along with a departmental performance evaluation. He said he would also like to hear, during that time frame, an opening discussion on what the council would like to see accomplished in the upcoming budget.

Bockelman said that in answer to questions regarding dumping fees at the Waste Water Treatment Plant, Finance Director Amy Fealko presented a fee sheet from Rigby, Idaho which revealed that Salmon is charging less for the same amount of gallons dumped by local septic services. It was suggested that Baker take the issue to the Public Works Team and that Public Works Supervisor Harry Shanafelt be available at the next Finance Team meeting to give his views on an increase in the septic dump fees.

Possible funding sources were discussed in the event the city decided to purchase the old Library Building. The discussion covered options related to selling other city owned property, the possibility of a bond question presented to tax payers, using contingency funds for the purchase or budgeting a per year payment plan.

Other Finance Team topics included when to look at paying down interest loans and that a department head report of large future expenses would be helpful to forewarn council members of what expenses to expect.

The Salmon City Council Finance Team met April 8 and Bockelman reported results of the meeting to the full council on April 15.

The next Finance Team meeting will take place on May 13 at 11AM in the City Hall Conference room. The public is welcome to attend team meetings.
