PUBLIC WORKS TOPICS 4-15-15 LMS

Whether or not a crosswalk is needed at the west end of the Salmon River Bridge was one of the topics discussed at the April 8 Public Works Team meeting according to Team Chairman Fred Waidely.

He told the April 15 meeting of the full City Council that the consensus was a crosswalk is needed because that is the only pedestrian path from area motels which provides access to downtown shops and restaurants. Waidely said the southern end of the crosswalk is American Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant but the north side only has a cut in the curb which leads to a gravel path and the Stage Coach Motel parking lot. It is not ADA compliant.

The Idaho Transportation Department has determined that due to the non-compliance the crosswalk must be removed.

Waidely said that Community Development Director Mary Cerise will contact motel management and ask if they would consider paving the gravel path so ITD could install an ADA curb and bring the crosswalk into compliance.

A request for installation of a crosswalk near Kidís Creek Pond will be passed on to ITD for consideration.

The Public Works Team also recommended that a workshop be held on street name changes presented months ago to the council. The council chose Tuesday, April 28, at 5:30 PM for the workshop date.

Waidely said a tree removal request had been received. Nathan Bills made the request saying that there are two trees in the right-of-way of Center Street which need to be cut down. The trees are on the north side of Shoup Street on Center Street. The removal will be done by the Public Works Department.

The team also discussed options pertaining to construction of City Park and Town Square Park restrooms. The subject was addressed at the April 15 City Council meeting and it was decided the project will be re-advertised with a completion date of next June. The council also unanimously decided stainless steel fixtures and demolition of the old restrooms will be removed from the bid request and that the advertising area will be extended into Montana by way of the internet.

The next meeting of the Public Works Team will be May 13 at 2PM.
