|NO DECISION ON APPRAISAL|
APPRAISAL TABLED 8-3-15 LMS
Whether or not the city should obtain an appraisal on the land they own beneath the Library building was debated at the Salmon City Council’s August 3 meeting.
Councilman Jim Bockelman introduced the subject and said he thought in order to be ready to make a decision on buying or not buying the Library building an appraisal should be in hand.
The cost of an appraisal would be $2,500. Councilman Ken Hill said, “I would say that it’s premature to get an appraisal unless we make a decision that we’re not going to purchase the building.” He said if the city’s decision is to buy the library building an appraisal on the city owned land under the building is not needed.” Hill labeled the appraisal as an expense the city does not need. Bockelman’s response was, “If that’s the consensus from the rest of us, then let’s make a decision.” Making a decision that evening was not possible since it was not listed on that meeting’s agenda.
Finance Director Amy Fealko is the one who obtained a cost for having an appraisal done. She commented that if an appraisal came in with a lower value than the appraisal done by the Library Board’s appraiser it could be a bargaining tool for a lower price on the building. She pointed out that the land does need to be appraised at some point.
Councilman Jim Baker said appraisals are generally fairly consistent therefore, he would not expect to see much difference in the estimates. Councilman Fred Waidely thought there should still be a second appraisal.
Bockelman made a motion to table the subject until the August 19 council meeting. He then requested that at the next City Council meeting the council commit to discussing, at length if necessary, what the city wants to do about purchasing the Library Building.
His motion to table a decision on whether to obtain an appraisal passed unanimously.
