|RED FLAG WARNING|
BOBCAT FIRE UPDATE
Red Flag Warning in effect from August 29, 06:00 AM MDT until August 29, 10:00 PM MDT
The Bobcat Fire is currently 85% contained. Firefighters continue to look for hot spots, reinforce the line, and develop contingency plans in preparation of high winds and low humidity forecasted for today and tomorrow. Fewer hot spots are being found within the fire perimeter and no hot spots have been found outside of the perimeter.
Support from the community, the hard work and dedication from fire personnel, and a strong emphasis on safety has resulted in the successful efforts of the Bobcat Fire suppression strategy.
Due to the high wind forecast for today, firefighters will focus on making sure the fire perimeter is cold, monitoring areas outside of the fireline for spotting, and staying out of dangerous areas where snags could fall. There is a total of five engine crews on the fire performing mop up operations, expanding the fire line, and rehabilitating areas that were opened in order to gain access to the fire. Two of these engine crews will position below the fire off Highway 93 for public safety.
A strong cold front will arrive today with strong gusty winds and low humidity which will produce dangerous fire conditions across the fire area. A reinforcing front will arrive for Sunday which will produce gusty conditions across much of the region.
Although the road closures in the fire area have been reopened, the public is urged to be cautious and drive slower when in these areas due to firefighter traffic and dusty conditions. The Comet Creek Trail (#6071) remains closed.
