LOT FUNDING AWARDED 9-2-15 LMS

The Salmon City Council has approved eight Local Option Tax requests for funding out of the nine application requests submitted. One request was ruled ineligible due to the lack of some required materials.

City Councilman Jim Bockelman presented the LOT Commission list of recommendations to the September 2 meeting of the City Council. He explained the requests go through a rating process that results in an average score. A total of $37,250 was available for the 2015 cycle-two funding and requests totaled $51,030. The total amount recommended by the commission and approved by the Salmon City Council was $35,530.

The application ruled ineligible came from the Lemhi County Fair Board. It asked for $9,000 to fund Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association rodeo events. Bockelman said the LOT Commission felt very strongly that the Fair Board would have scored very high and been competitive for funding if they had submitted the correct documents.

The approved awards are as follows: $10,314 for the Salmon City Pool boiler replacement parts, paint, supplies and consultation; $3,000 for the Sacajawea Center signage at the Interpretive Center; $10,439 to the City of Salmon Public Works Department for a grant match related to the sidewalk project; $1,750 to the Salmon Golf Association for an ADA ramp; $2,500 to the Salmon Golf Association for the number 8 Tee Box rehab; $5,927 to the Salmon Hockey Association for flooring upgrades and replacement and $1,600 to the Salmon Soccer Association for soccer camps.

A City of Salmon Parks and Recreation request for $15,500 to purchase a new lawnmower was not recommended because some commission members felt the item should be put into the city budget and that more information was needed.

In addition to the funding awards Bockelman said at the last LOT meeting the commission discussed actions taken by the staff regarding one hotel that is two months behind in its LOT payment. He said there was also a discussion as to possible future LOT Commission members and filling the seats as terms come to an end.

LOT Commission members include; Lin Gray, who recused herself from voting on the Sacajawea Center request, Julie Barbaric, Cathy Cranney, Craig McCallum, Barbara Soper, Jim Bockelman, Robin Watkins, Rob Jackson and Mary Cerise. Barbarick was not in attendance at the August 18 meeting.
