FINANCES REVIEWED 12-17-15 LMS

City Finance Director Amy Fealko told a December 9 meeting of the city’s Finance Team that there are numbers to be carried over to the monthly financial report and that the first big tax payment will come in in January. She said the city has received one sales tax payment and one revenue sharing payment. As for the November numbers she said there is nothing out of the ordinary.

Councilman Ken Hill delivered the Finance Team report at the Salmon City Council’s December 17 meeting. He said Fealko told the team the October Local Option Tax payment from the motel that was behind in payments has been received. She also said the annual audit will begin December 16.

Hill said there was a continued discussion on holding accounts for future replacements and/or improvements to the water and sewer facilities. That discussion will continue with eventual results to be reported to the City Council.

Fealko gave the team the 2015 Eastern Idaho Residential Water and Sewer User Rates and Connection Fees Survey. The survey is a comparison list of cities beginning with ‘A’ for Aberdeen and continuing through Weston. The list includes population numbers. Hill said the survey has good information to gauge where Salmon stands in what is charged for water and sewer usage.

The Finance team also discussed whether or not business licenses should be renewed annually as a way of keeping track of existing businesses. City Clerk Mary Benton will be consulted as to her opinion.

Hill said there may be grant monies available to municipalities for purchasing or improving off street parking in the downtown area. The team discussed the concept of obtaining funding for improved parking and whether the city should invest in such property or partner with Main Street businesses for that purpose. The idea will be explored further.

The next meeting of the Finance Tea, will be January 13 at 11AM in the City Hall Meeting Room.
