PUBLIC WORKS TOPICS 5-18-16 LMS

Repair goals on Kids Creek have been met according to a May 18 report to the Salmon City Council.

Council President Jim Baker is the chairman of the city’s Public Works Team which met with Public Works Supervisor Harry Shanafelt on May 11. He said Shanafelt reported that all of the post flood, originally planned Kids Creek repair items have been completed. He also said the culvert in Water Street remains under consideration and that a large tree and root wad are blocking flows on the downstream side of Water Street.

Shanafelt said that area has numerous private property stream obstructions and that existing tree limbs are overhanging a residential home. He said the city does not have the necessary equipment, home owner permission or insurance to accomplish the tree removal therefore there are no plans for any further city action.

Polly Anderson, and Gary Goodman from the County Building Department along with Emergency Services Coordinator Janet Nelson met with the team to present concerns about the confusion and time delays emergency services personnel are experiencing due to non-connecting streets which deadend in one block then resume in another block.. They said the confusion causes delayed emergency response time and that the street names and maps need to be changed so that directions received and delivered by Dispatch are easier to understand. Baker said the team plans to continue the discussion before recommending council action.

The Public Works Team reviewed about 20 non-standard water and sewer service accounts for the purpose of updating them to current city codes and also heard a Capital Improvement Plan presented by City Grants and Community Project Coordinator Mary Cerise. If approved the planned investment proposal would be included in the city of Salmon’s Transportation Plan.

Baker said the next meeting of the Public Works Team will take place on June 8 at 2PM in the Salmon City Hall Conference Room.
