AFTERNOON LIGHTNING BRINGS THREE NEW FIRES 8-5-16
Afternoon thunderstorms started three new fires on the Salmon-Challis National Forest. The Moose Fire is 1/10 of an acre, on the North Fork Ranger District near Lost Trail Pass. The fire is staffed with an engine and crew from the Bitterroot National Forest and firefighters from the Salmon-Challis National Forest.
The other two fires are on the Middle Fork Ranger District. The Sheldon Fire is approximately one (1) acre in size, is located 13 miles southeast of Sleeping Deer Lookout in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. The fire is staffed with six (6) firefighters with assistance from one Type III (light) helicopter. The Boundary Fire is approximately 20 acres in size, ¾ of a mile west of Boundary Creek Boat Launch in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. The Fire is staffed with 8 firefighters, one Type I (heavy) helicopter, and one Type II (medium) helicopter. A Type II Initial Attack crew will be hiking into the fire tomorrow and there are two more crews on order.
