PUBLIC WORKS TEAM SEEKS SOLUTIONS 8-17-16 LMS

Council President and Public Works Team Chairman Jim Baker told the August 17 meeting of the Salmon City Council that inquiries into using the cityís sewer for Middle Fork and Main Salmon River float trip fecal matter disposal have not been answered. The materials are currently being processed in North Fork.

The team also discussed the County Building Departmentís request about readdressing non-connecting streets. The request is based on making it easier for emergency services personnel to locate street addresses quickly.

Baker said the Building Department will send letters of inquiry to residents in the affected areas and City Development Project Coordinator Mary Cerise will tabulate public responses to the proposed street name changes.

The Public Works Team is reviewing existing non-standard water and sewer agreements and that topic will be continued at the teamís September meeting.

During a Roundtable Discussion the Public Works Team considered the advisability of replacing the sewer lift station near the cityís treatment lagoon. Public Works Superintendent Harry Shanafelt and Waste Water Treatment Plant Supervisor Charlie Cockrell have met with Keller Engineering to discuss the possible replacement. Baker said the lift station was built in 1967 and upgraded in 1987.

Keller will analyze the systemís age and current condition and advise the city as to replacement options.

Baker said Cerise gave the team an update on the Island Park Bridge project. She said the notice to proceed and pre-construction meeting has been set for September 15.

The Main Street sidewalk replacement pre-bid meeting is scheduled for August 18th with bids due on August 29th. A special council meeting has been scheduled on Tuesday August 30th at 4:30PM for bid review and contract approval. Work on the project will begin September 7th.

The next meeting of the Public Works Team will take place September 10 at 2PM in the City Center Conference Room.
