|FINAL UPDATE ON STEIN FIRE|
STEIN FIRE UPDATE AUGUST 25, 2016
This will be the final daily update for the Stein Fire. The Stein Fire, located on the North Fork Ranger District, is estimated at 104 acres in subalpine fir and lodgepole pine with 100% containment. The Stein Fire was caused by a holdover lightning strike from Sunday, August 14th and was detected on Tuesday, August 16th. The fire is located 15 miles north of Salmon, Idaho, between Stein and North Mountains in hazardous terrain that is steep and inaccessible with snags that are a safety concern for firefighters.
The Stein Fire has transitioned to a Type 4 Incident Commander (IC) Shay Dahle with Seth Larson as Trainee. Currently there are two (2) local type 6 engines and an additional type 6 engine from Colorado as well as a Type 2 Initial Attack (IA) crew from Salt Lake City and a Type 3 Helicopter and crew from Oregon, for a total of 41 fire fighters.
Operational plan is to continue mop up efforts and increase depth on secure lines as well as rehabbing any lines where needed. The next few days will see an increase in temperatures and lower relative humidity with no moisture or relief in the forecast until mid-next week. As the weekend approaches and mop up continues crews will reevaluate resource needs and begin to scale down number of resources by the end of the week.
Initial Attack still a top priority on the Salmon-Challis National Forest and the resources on Stein fire will be available to assist with Initial Attack as needed.
