INTERAGENCY AGREEMENT RE-DISCUSSED 12-7-16 LMS
On November 28 the Lemhi County Commissioners voted to send a letter to the City of Salmon breaking off negotiations on a joint Interagency Agreement to pursue building a second bridge across the Salmon River. The commissioners stated their decision was based on changes made to the Interagency document by the City Council after an agreement had been reached at a November 14 city/county meeting. The letter from Commissioner Chairman John Jakovac requested the council reconsider its position and approve the Interagency Agreement no later than December 1st.
Unfortunately the letter was not sent to the city in time for council consideration before it appeared in the December 1 newspaper.
At the December 7 council meeting City Mayor Leo Marshall read the contents of Jakovacís letter to the council along with an apology from the county for not getting the letter to the council prior to the newspaper publication.
City Councilman Neal James accurately recounted the history of meetings with the county, the agreement reached at a November 14 meeting and the changes made to the agreement at the November 16 council meeting. Council President Jim Baker said he thinks it is wise for the council to revisit the agreement and will officially make a request for further discussions during a future meeting. He said he will figure out whether or not he wants the city to revisit the agreement right now, after those discussions. Baker also said he does not think it is in the cityís best interest to move forward with the agreement at this time. Councilman Russ Chinske indicated he will save his comments until the next discussion.
At the end of Wednesday nightís meeting further discussion on the city/county Interagency Agreement was added to the City Councilís December 20 meeting agenda.
