SACAJAWEA CENTER COMMITTEE REPORT 5-17-17 LMS

At the May 17 meeting of the Salmon City Council Parks and Recreation Team Chairman, Councilman Rob Jackson, read a report from the newly organized Sacajawea Center Committee. He said that Ken Roberts has been named as Chairman, Hope Benedict as Vice Chair and Sherri Ford as Secretary. There is a vacancy on the committee and Sacajawea Center Director Linn Gray will be talking with Mayor Marshall as well as with the Shoshone-Bannock Cultural Preservation Director about suggestions for filling the committee vacancy.

The committee report said the Docent Program at the center has 14 committee members and four on-site volunteers which is the most support shown in several years. The Summer schedule continues to grow with events and lectures. August 18 and 19 has been set for the annual “Heritage Days” and the committee will be inviting more organizations to participate. The Center Committee is discussing advertising the center programs and the possibility of producing a monthly flyer as well as having center on-site hosts distribute informational brochures to local businesses.

The deadline for grant applications to the Governor’s Lewis and Clark Trail Committee is September 20. The Sacajawea Center and the Lemhi County Historical Society may combine forces and request funds for the 2018 Lemhi County History Month.

A trustee from the Idaho State Historical Society will be in Salmon August 14 and 15. It is hoped there will be a community event from which local feedback can be gathered. It would also be a good way for the Sacajawea Center to gain community input on future directions for the center. To generate the feedback, the Center Committee will develop a set of questions for presentation to the community in August.

The next meeting of the Sacajawea Center Committee will take place at 1PM September 7 in the Sacajawea Learning Center.
