CREWS RESPOND TO RECENT FIRES 6-12-17
Several thunder storms have passed over the Salmon-Challis National Forest recently and as a result three (3) new fires were reported. The Hidden Mouth, Bob Moore, and Mill Creek fires were all 1/10 of an acre and were controlled last week.
The Hidden Mouth fire was east of Mackay up Pass Creek, the Mill Creek fire was northwest of Leadore up Mill Creek, and the Bob Moore fire was northwest of Salmon south of Morning Glory.
Seasonal gates/routes were scheduled to be open on 5/22/2017 on the Leadore, North Fork, and Salmon-Cobalt Ranger Districts. Due to late melting of snowpack on the districts, several gates on roads at higher elevations were not accessible and opening was delayed. All gates are now open on the North Zone.
The following is a list of gate/routes that were opened last week by Ranger District:
LEADORE RANGER DISTRICT:
Warm Springs Area-route #149 and #733
Big Eightmile Area-route #004
NORTH FORK RANGER DISTRICT:
Upper Donnelly Gulch-route #164.
SALMON-COBALT RANGER DISTRICT:
Stormy Peak Area-route #128 (gate at end of route)
Moose Cr/Dump Cr Area-route #183 (2 gates)
East Boulder Area-routes #098 and route #023
East Boulder Meadow Jureano Mountain Area-routes #300A, #326, #326A, and #018
Phelan Mountain Area-route #234
Deep Creek Ridge Area-routes #271 and #338
Woodtick Road Area-routes #106 (4 gates) and #099A
Due to current conditions and forecasted weather, forest visitors must be prepared to stay longer than expected due to rapidly changing circumstances. Weather conditions such as high water, precipitation, and wind can rapidly change conditions on the ground. Wind can blow trees across roadways and high water and precipitation can wash debris across roadways blocking access or wash roadways out. Be sure to let someone know where you are headed and be prepared with extra food and clothing.
