|TAPPAN FIRE UPDATE|
Tappan Fire August 2, 2017 August 2, 2017
Fire Size: Approximately 433 acres
Location: On the Middle Fork and North Fork Ranger Districts, near the confluence of Camas Creek and the Middle Fork of the Salmon River. Fire is located east of the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in steep, rocky, and inaccessible terrain.
Fuels: Grass, brush, and scattered timber.
Staffing: Fire resources assigned to the fire include one (1) helicopter, 12 firefighters, two (2) resource advisors, and fire managers located in Salmon, Idaho. The fire is being managed in the wilderness while providing for firefighter and public safety and protecting identified values at risk such as river camps, private property, and natural and cultural resources. A Type 3 Incident Commander has been assigned to the fire and is responsible for providing leadership, monitoring fire conditions and oversee in resource protection measures near river camps, private structures, and other resource values. Firefighter and public safety will remain, as always, a priority. It is anticipated the Tappan Fire will temporarily impact the Middle Fork River camps. Local fire managers are coordinating with Middle Fork Ranger District River Staff and resource advisors to develop plans for redirecting Middle Fork River floaters to appropriate River camps, as necessary. Information will also be distributed to Middle Fork floaters at strategic points along the River.
Due to increased fire activity and resource commitment, Central Idaho is moving to PL 3.
Weather: Continued hot and dry through Sunday.
Fire spread: Fire is burning primarily to the north and south this evening.
